4 successful Pinays to vie for int'l pageant titles

Four successful married women, incuding two showbiz personalities, who through their professions and personal efforts are making extraordinary differences in the lives of others or the community, will represent the Philippines in international beauty pageants.

These beauty queens are: actress Patricia Javier, who will be the country's delegate to Noble Queen of the Universe 2019 in December; actress Charo Laude, Mrs Universe 2019, China; Cheryl Fordan Villanueva, Mrs Tourism 2019, October; and Ching delos Reyes, Mrs Plus-Size contest, 2020.

Under the auspices of Mrs Universe Finest Woman (MUFW), these honorable women were presented to the press by its national director Marilou Tolico-Villanueva during meet-and-greet at Dulcinea Restaurant in Quezon City Wednesday.

Marilou has represented the Philippines in Mrs Universe 2017 in Durban; and Mrs World 2017 in Johannesburg, both in South Africa. She is currently the Face of Dermcare Skin Center

The pageants under MUFW are organized by the Philippines Honorable Queens (PGQ) which recognizes the role of women in society by giving awards to women in their chosen field.

"We support various programs that include anti-violence on women and kids, anti-depression campaign, livelihood and seminar programs, anti-bullying, micro-entrepreneurs, among others," said Marilou.

Javier and Laude have switched pageants for personal reasons.

"Gusto ko pong makasama ang pamilya ko sa Pasko kaya hindi na ako sumali sa Mrs. Universe. Inuna ko talaga ang family ko bago ito. Masasagasaan talaga ng pageant yung Christmas," Javier said.

Laude, who currently stars in the top-rating Kapamilya teleserye "Kadenang Ginto," said that it is okay for her to spend the holidays abroad.

Both Javier and Laude were batchmates in Binibining Pilipinas in their younger days.

They were also groupmates in the now defunct "That's Entertainment" on GMA-7.

Said Laude: "We were the last batch before 'That's' finally bid goodbye on air."

Delos Reyes, businesswoman; and Cheryl, a teacher in Makati, said that they are excited to join their respective pageants so that they can share their advocacies to the world. (Robert R. Requintina)
